June 14th

Work messed up my exercise again today! After last night's situation I had to give up my usual Friday off, including school run, grocery shopping and metafit, to go into work and scrape all the sh*t off the fan. So I resorted to hula-hooping as fast as I could in front of the TV this evening.

On the plus side, I arrived in the office to find that a kind member of my fitness challenge team had heard I was coming in and left a bowl of fresh fruit salad on my desk for me <3

June 13th

Waah! Have been in work hell all evening, I didn't even make it out for my scheduled training run! Finally finished working at 11pm, so skipping it was again. Boo!

June 12th

Gutted! My hula hoop teacher was back from her hols, so I was supposed to go to my class tonight. But due to a series of crises, I was 2 and a half hours late finishing work and didn't make it back in time. So I had to rely on my fallback, skipping... this time I skipped backwards, and I even managed to avoid treading on the vast number of snails which had appeared on the lawn!

June 11th

Back on with the running tonight! Out with my club we did the same run as last Tuesday - over the viaduct and up the hill to Queensbury and back. Felt pretty OK. It's a nice club I run with - all ladies bar the husbands of the women who organise it. For a village running group there's usually a decent turnout - anywhere from a dozen upwards, even in winter! We split into 3 groups: fast runners, slow runners and speed walkers. I am in the intermediate group at the moment, we run somewhere between 10 and 12 minute miles, which suits me fine. It's good to be with a group of ladies who run a similar pace to me, keeps me motivated.

June 10th

Jay was out climbing until 10pm so once again, I only managed to complete the skipping challenge I'd set myself and my colleague.

I also customised my running vest with the details of my just giving page! An evening well spent.

June 9th

It's Sunday, which means long run day. I did a nice 5.3 miles around country lanes and footpaths past Hewenden viaduct on a warm evening. It's a slightly hilly circuit in places so I did walk a couple of sections, but I was happy with my overall pace and feel like I'm getting back into it again.

Also of note - a record day on the pedometer! The run combined with a sunny afternoon walk with my kids notched up a whacking 21871 steps!

June 8th

I'm afraid I've not had time to run today. What with kids' swimming lessons, chores, going in to the office for a few hours, and driving to Durham and back for a family bbq it's just not been possible. So I've done something I've not done for many many years... I got a rope and skipped in the garden!

Bloody hell, it's much harder than I remembered!!!

June 7th

Hurrah! It's Friday, which means a break from running! Today was metafit at my friendly local fitness studio. We did the "chicken loop" workout, which was rock hard. It was also rather warm, so the sweat was dripping off the end of my nose while I was doing hot hands. I've not been for a month or so but although I was knackered by the end it was very satisfying.

I'm not quite done yet, as I'll be off to a ceilidh shortly...

June 6th

Another late run this evening, about 3.2 miles home from the next village. Thursday night is choir practice; usually I run there and bus home, but I was too late eating dinner so my husband have me a lift out and I ran home instead. A lovely mild evening, running down into a lush green valley and then up the hairpin bends at the other side while the sun set!

And my legs still don't hurt in my old shoes!

June 5th

Another evening, another run. 2 miles, pleasantly warm, no leg pain, felt great! Plus, my pace is starting to improve.

I'm doing a corporate fitness challenge in June and July - teams of eleven competing globally for the most minutes of exercise and the highest number of steps walked every day. So my colleagues and I are all walking around with pedometers on and we're getting very competitive! I'm team captain so I'm trying to think of some challenges to set the rest of the team - I'm toying with the idea of borrowing a set of hula hoops and challenging everyone to learn to hula hoop. Or to buy a skipping rope and leaving it on people's desks to challenge them to skip for 5 minutes. Any other ideas?

June 4th

Well, what a difference a pair of shoes makes! Ran in my old ones and didn't have any problems with leg pain. Which is a shame, as the new ones cost a fair bit!

Went out for the first time in ages with my running group and had a lovely run in the sunshine along the great northern trail from Thornton to Queensbury and back. Just over 4 miles. Some surprisingly steep sections for a railway line!

I'm so pleased to have had an enjoyable run again.

June 3rd

A brief, late 2 miles tonight, after my husband got back from climbing. I think I have shoe issues; I got a new pair just before I had a running hiatus (snow plus illness) but now I'm putting the miles in again my left leg is really hurting. I may go back to my old comfortable shoes again tomorrow to see if there's any improvement...

june 2nd

Today was my long run. I needed to go into work; running all the way wasn't an option (would be about 25 miles each way) so I parked the car 3.75 miles from work and ran in and back. It was warm. My leg ached. It seemed like a long way. But it's done.

june 1st

I was in 2 minds about whether to do juneathon. Was it to much commitment? But as I'm training for a half-marathon, and also doing a corporate fitness challenge in June and July, plus the sun was actually shining (it's been a crappy spring in our part of the uk) I thought: why not? Just a shorty today, about 2 miles around the top of the hill. Felt OK, although my legs ached. Pace not too bad, considering I'm still pretty out of shape.
